Frequently Asked Questions

  • Contrary to popular belief, sleep training is not synonymous with “cry it out.” My holistic approach to sleep training includes optimizing your child’s routines and external environment as well as taking into account sleep safety and your child’s age and specific needs.

A healthy sleep training program works with the science of sleep to get your child sleeping in sync with their own biological rhythms. A healthy sleep training program promotes soothing bedtime routines and helps to establish an effective sleep environment so your child can get the best, most restorative sleep possible. In combination with a sleep training method, all of these components work together to get your child falling asleep independently, sleeping longer throughout the night, and falling back to sleep independently when wake ups do occur.

  • I am trained in a variety of sleep training methods that are inclusive of different temperaments and parenting styles. No matter which method you choose, your child may experience some frustration as they learn new sleep skills. Rather than saying, “why isn’t someone rocking me to sleep again?” babies and toddlers express their frustration with tears. While I cannot guarantee that your child won’t protest this change, I know that you and your child will end up healthier and happier! Feel free to ask me about the science behind sleep training!

  • There are a plethora of books and blogs on parenting and sleep (not to mention the advice of friends and family), so why should you hire a pediatric sleep consultant? Well, all the information out there can be confusing and conflicting. Should you follow wake windows or your child’s sleep cues? Should you do the chair method or timed checks? Can you sleep train a child in a bed? How do you sleep train multiples? What if your child has a medical condition?

If your child isn’t sleeping well you are tired. So tired you don’t have the time or bandwidth to sort through all the research and information. A sleep consultant will save you time. I have read the relevant scientific literature for you, and am equipped to help families in a multitude of situations including:

    • Children ages 4 months - 5 years

    • Room-sharing siblings

    • Multiples

    • Children with special needs

Unlike most books or other sleep programs which promote a “one size fits all” approach, I offer a variety of strategies and solutions to meet the needs of all parenting styles and child temperaments. The sleep training method is only one part of my holistic approach to achieving healthy, restorative sleep for your family. And I will be with you every step of the way, providing on-going support through the entire process.

  • Absolutely! And I won’t charge you double (or triple!). Just checkout with one sleep package.

  • No. It is extremely difficult to teach independent sleep skills while you or your partner are bed-sharing with your child. When you decide that you are ready to transition your child into a crib/bed I will be here to help you make that happen!

  • Absolutely. Attachment parenting involves responding to your child’s needs AND recognizing when your child is ready to do things on their own (like fall asleep!). I will meet you where you are at and create a sleep plan that is perfect for your family.

The one caveat - if bedsharing is a priority for you, then unfortunately we will not be a good fit as it is very difficult to teach independent sleep while your child is right next to you in bed.
